Life Ain't Easy

Life Ain't Easy

They say that nothing in life is ever easy. May of 2018 definitely taught me that. It was an extremely trying time for me. In the span of two weeks my life turned into a rollercoaster. My neighbor Jerry, who was like a grandfather to me, passed away from cancer. Then we celebrated Mother's Day and my 26th Birthday. My mother graduated from college, which was an amazing experience to be a part of. My grandfather's chemotherapy wasn't going as planned.

Although all of these ups and downs were going on in my life I knew there was one thing that I could focus on. One thing that I could use as an escape from life. Marathon Training. I knew I needed to stay busy. It felt like there was something I could actually control.

In June, I decided to run another 5k that would be fun. The Braves Country 5k! The morning of, it was pouring down rain.

However, as soon as everyone lined up and the gun went off, the rain stopped. This race was enjoyable because I had the chance to run around circle 75 which surrounds SunTrust Park (where the Atlanta Braves play). The course tested me due to the insane hills. Fans of all ages come out dressed in the Tomahawk best to enjoy the community. As the run continued, I felt a pinch in my knee, but didn't think anything of it. I pushed through the pain and finished strong, but as soon as I entered the stadium and crossed the line I realized my knee had swollen to the size of a softball! I could barely walk.

The best thing about this race is that you get a free ticket to one of the home games. I had chosen the game that was the day of the race because I thought it best to spend the whole day down there. A decision I began to regret after my knee injury. My seat was at the top of the stadium and it was near impossible to climb up and down the stairs.
I still enjoyed the game though.

I had hit my wall. The knee injury had put a halt to my marathon training and I was once again feeling like there was nothing I could control. I was lucky that the injury only lasted for a few weeks. Which meant I was good to go for the Peachtree Road Race!
